How to price shipping by parcel weight (weight bands)
Instead of one flat price, a shipping method can charge by parcel weight using tiered weight bands - e.g. up to 1 kg costs €2.99, up to 5 kg costs €4.99, and above that €7.99. Bands are set per method and per country, in the same window as the method's price.
- 1
Go to Shipping → Delivery, click the country on the map, then click the method's row in the country's panel.
- 2
Under Price by parcel weight, click Add weight band. The first band covers every weight - 0 kg and above - at the method's customer price.
- 3
Click Add weight band again for each further tier. Each click closes the top band and opens a new one above it, at the same price.
- 4
In the Weight column, type each band's upper limit in kg. The next band starts where this one ends, so there are no gaps or overlaps; the top band stays open-ended (and above).
- 5
Set each band's Price. Free shipping from is optional per band: leave it blank to use the method's own threshold, or enter 0 to turn free shipping off for that band.
- 6
Use the Offered switch to stop offering the method for parcels in that weight range, and the X to remove a band.
- 7
Click Done, then Save in the Unsaved changes bar to store the bands for that country.
Good to know
- Bands are saved together with the rest of the country's changes when you press Save - nothing is written while you edit, and Discard throws them away.
- When bands exist, they set the price. The Customer price is then only charged when the parcel weight is unknown.
- The method's row sums the bands up, e.g. By weight · €2.99–€7.99.
- Carriers that price at checkout have no weight bands, unless you switch them to a fixed country price in their carrier settings.
- Parcel weight comes from the order items' unit weights - you can edit those on the order page.
